Rookie Watch 2012

So far the only rookies confirmed for 2012 season are Charles Pic for Marussia Virgin (to be soon renamed Marussia) and Jean-Eric Vergne for ToroRosso. There are also some familiar names returning to F1 in 2012; Kimi Raikkonen ditches Rally to return to F1, Pedro De La Rosa quits being a McLaren reserve driver and gets a race seat at HRT – proving to everyone, it’s never too late to chase your dreams, Romain Grosjean who will partner another returner, Raikkonen at LRGP and Nico Hulkenberg who gets Sutil’s seat at Force India.

For 2011, Charles Pic moved from Arden International GP2 team to Barwa Addax, to partner Giedo van der Garde. He failed to score any points in the Asia series, but scored his second main series win at Catalunya, leading home Van der Garde for an Addax one-two finish. He eventually finished 4th in the championship, three points ahead of Van der Garde.

Vergne graduated to the Formula Renault 3.5 Series full-time in 2011, switching from Tech 1 Racing to Carlin. In November 2011, Vergne tested the title-winning Red Bull RB7 at the Young Driver Test in Abu Dhabi, setting the fastest lap time on all three days.

In December 2011, it was confirmed that Vergne would race for Toro Rosso in the 2012 season, alongside fellow Red Bull Junior Team member Daniel Ricciardo – displacing both Alguersuari and Buemi.
